On January 13, 2020, the Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminded producers of fast approaching sales closing dates. For 2020 spring-planted onions in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, and cabbage in Oregon and Washington, the final date to purchase or modify crop insurance is February 1. For all other 2020 spring-seeded crops (excluding wheat in counties with fall and spring planted types), and for farmers who file their taxes on an early fiscal or calendar basis who want WFRP, coverage can be purchased or changed by March 15. RMA states that producers should contact their crop insurance agent for more details.
ANALYSIS – Reminders of upcoming deadlines can only help producers and ensure they receive the coverage they need. However, it is unclear whether the dates contained herein only apply to Idaho, Oregon and Washington, which are specifically referenced, or the dates apply to all states. Producers should contact their agent to ensure compliance with the sales closing deadlines.
